Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat Thai food on keto?

Yes! Many Thai dishes are naturally keto-friendly or easily adapted. Focus on curries with coconut milk, grilled meats (gai yang, moo ping), soups (tom yum, tom kha), and stir-fries without sugar. Avoid rice, noodles, and sweet sauces.

What Thai ingredients are keto-friendly?

Coconut milk, fish sauce, shrimp paste, lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, Thai basil, cilantro, chili peppers, and most Thai herbs are keto-friendly. Watch out for palm sugar, sweet soy sauce, and oyster sauce — use keto substitutes.

Is coconut milk keto?

Full-fat coconut milk is excellent for keto — it's high in healthy fats and low in carbs (about 3-4g net carbs per 1/2 cup). Always choose unsweetened, full-fat versions without added thickeners or sugar.

What can I substitute for rice in Thai keto meals?

Cauliflower rice is the most popular substitute. Konjac rice, shirataki rice, and cabbage rice also work well. For a more authentic experience, try "khao pad" (Thai fried "rice") made with cauliflower rice.

Are Thai curries keto?

Green, red, yellow, Panang, and Massaman curries can all be keto when made without added sugar. Use full-fat coconut milk, check your curry paste for hidden sugars, and skip the rice. Most Thai curries are naturally high-fat and low-carb.
